OIL CITY, Pa. (EYT) — The Oil City Parking Authority was officially dissolved on Wednesday.

According to Bard Crudo, a member of the Oil City Parking Authority, the decision to eliminate the authority was one that had been under consideration for some time.

“The Parking Authority was still there in name, but it was short of members because nobody was really interested in it,” Crudo told ExploreVenango.com.

“There were supposed to be five members, but we only had three for the last couple of years.”

Crudo said she and the other members, Daryl Hicks and Fred Weaver, began to feel that they were being ignored as the city took on more decisions related to parking, and felt the authority had become “superficial.”

“The city had pretty much taken over management and decision making on everything in regard to lots. We certainly weren’t being kept informed or given a chance to express our interest or opinions about things and we just felt it was superficial. We were meeting, but what were we doing? We had nothing to decide, and we weren’t being consulted on anything.”

According to Crudo, the idea of dissolving the authority was one they had “kicked around” for a while.

In April, Crudo addressed the Council on behalf of herself and her fellow members and announced that the members would be tendering their resignations. However, City Solicitor Robert Varsek asked them to hold off on the official resignations until some administrative work to dissolve the Authority could be handled.

Crudo told exploreVenango.com after the meeting that the plan had been for the Authority members to submit their resignations immediately, but with Varsek saying that the Authority members may have to tie up some lose ends first, they would have to wait.

That wait ended on Wednesday evening when the Authority held their final meeting and officially voted to shut down.
