OIL CITY, Pa. (EYT) — Oil City Police Officers joined members of Erie S.W.A.T. and the U.S. Marshals to apprehend a man wanted on robbery charges.

Court documents indicate the Oil City Police Department filed criminal charges against 19-year-old Tyler George Burns, of Dillsburg, on October 12, in Magisterial District Judge Andrew F. Fish’s office.

According to a criminal complaint, Oil City Police on October 12 assisted the Erie Police Department S.W.A.T. and U.S. Marshals’ office in serving a search warrant at a residence on Hone Avenue, in Oil City, Venango County.

The search warrant’s purpose was to enter the residence and take Tyler Burns into custody. Burns was wanted on parole from a prior arrest for a robbery in March of 2020, where Burns pleaded guilty to the charge, the complaint states.

Upon executing the search warrant, officers made contact with Burns and his 18-year-old girlfriend who were located in the dining room area of the house, which was made into a makeshift bedroom area. Burns was taken into custody, and his girlfriend was detained.

While inside the residence, officers located a small baggy in plain view that contained suspected marijuana, as well as a side table next to the bed where marijuana remnants were found, according to the complaint.

Burns then requested a gray pair of sweatpants in the bedroom area of the residence as he was in his underwear, the complaint notes.

An OCPD officer entered the residence with a member of Erie S.W.A.T. to retrieve the sweatpants when officers located a black Ruger .38 caliber revolver, the complaint states.

Based on knowledge of the incident, the prior conviction for robbery, as well as the controlled substances located, police stopped and applied for an additional search warrant for firearms and controlled substances, the complaint indicates.

Upon receipt of an approved search warrant, officers seized marijuana that was in plain view, as well as the Ruger revolver. Other items seized included digital scales, plastic baggies, new “stamp bags,” and other firearm-related items including an extended magazine and ammunition, according to the complaint.

Burns was subsequently taken into custody. It was noted that he was uncooperative and asked to be read the charges against him. No further conversations took place, according to the complaint.

He was arraigned at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 12, on the following charges:

– Possession of Firearm Prohibited, Felony 2
– Flight To Avoid Appreh/Trial/Punish, Felony 3
– Intentional Possession Controlled Substance By Person Not Registered, Misdemeanor
– Use/Possession Of Drug Paraphernalia, Misdemeanor

According to court documents, Burns was deemed a “parole absconder,” and therefore, bail was denied.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, October 19, at 10:30 a.m., in Venango County Central Court with Judge Fish presiding.
