OIL CITY, Pa. (EYT) — Two men have been lodged in the Venango County Jail following a dispute in Oil City.

Court documents indicate the Oil City Police Department filed criminal charges against 41-year-old Tyree Ceneca Burgess, of Oil City, and 41-year-old Corey Matthew Goodwill, of Franklin.

According to a criminal complaint, around 3:19 p.m. on Wednesday, September 19, officers of the Oil City Police Department were dispatched to Lot 9 off Center Street in Oil City for a report of a white male threatening a black male with a knife.

The complaint states that an eyewitness reported that Corey Goodwill approached Tyree Burgess and pulled an unknown item out of his pocket, then Burgess stated that Goodwill “didn’t need to pull out a knife on him.” The eyewitness then ran from the scene and fled to the Oil City Police Department to make a report.

According to the complaint, when Patrolman Rembold arrived at the scene, he made contact with the men, later identified as Corey Goodwill and Tyree Burgess. The men stated that they were just talking, and there was no problem.

Goodwill advised Patrolman Rembold and Officer Anderson that the situation going on was between Burgess and himself, and he would not give them any other information.

Patrolman Rembold separated the men to speak to them individually.

After being advised of the report, Goodwill allegedly stated that he did have a knife, but he did not threaten the other man. Patrolman Rembold frisked Goodwill and located a straight, martial arts type knife in his pocket and took possession of it for safety reasons, the complaint states.

During a search of Goodwill’s belongings, police found a red, yellow, and green “WeighMax” portable scale with suspected methamphetamine residue on both the scale and the cover of the scale. Other small empty baggies that are known for the sale of narcotics were found along with the scale, according to the complaint.

Patrolman Rembold then spoke to the other man and asked his name.

According to the complaint, the man gave the name Terry Washington. When dispatch was contacted to check for information and possible warrants on both men, it was learned there was no information on Washington.

Patrolman Rembold asked the man his name again, and he stated it was Tyrees Washington; however, dispatch said again there was no information on that name, either. After Patrolman Rembold mentioned going to the station for a fingerprint ID, the man stated his name was Tyree Burgess. It was discovered there was an active warrant for Burgess in Lackawanna County, and he was taken into custody.

The complaint notes that upon collecting his belongings, two folding knives were located laying on the ground under a balled up shirt.

Both men were arraigned on Wednesday, September 19, in Magisterial District Judge Patrick E. Lowrey’s office.

Goodwill faces the following charges:

  • Disorderly Conduct Engage in Fighting, Misdemeanor 3
  • Use/Possession Of Drug Paraphernalia, Misdemeanor

Unable to post $5,000.00 monetary bail, he remains lodged in the Venango County Jail.

Burgess faces the following charges:

  • False Identification To Law Enforcement Officer, Misdemeanor 3
  • Disorderly Conduct Engage in Fighting, Misdemeanor 3

Unable to post $25,000.00 monetary bail, he remains lodged in the Venango County Jail.

Preliminary hearings are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 26, in Venango County Central Court.
