OIL CITY, Pa. (EYT) — The Oil City Police Department say a 26-year-old woman is facing criminal charges for filing a false child abuse report.

According to court documents, charges were filed against 26-year-old Joanne Danielle Latchaw, of Edinboro.

The charges stem from an investigation of alleged child abuse involving the child’s father that occurred in August of 2017.

Through the investigation, it was discovered the allegations were unfounded.

At the conclusion of the investigation, an interview was conducted with Joanne Latchaw who subsequently admitted to the said allegations being false, and she did purposely file a false allegation of child abuse, according to police.

Latchaw was charged with Title 18, Section 4906.1 — False Reports of Child Abuse, a second-degree misdemeanor.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on January 3 in Magisterial District Judge Andrew F. Fish’s office.

A certified summons was issued for Latchaw on November 28.
