The Knights (1-1) led 16-14 at halftime but the Oiler (2-0) scored on a pair of second-half runs.

Cameron Russell scored his second touchdown of the game with 6:37 left in the third quarter to give Oil City the lead for good, 20-16, and Noah Petro all but put the game away when he scored on a 13-yard run with 4:45 to play.

Oil City overcame an early 10-0 deficit to pick up its second straight win in the series and its ninth win in 11 tries.

Russell and Petro both had big games on the ground for the Oilers, who rushed for 356 yards as a team.

Petro led the way with 16 carries for 154 yards, while Russell, who also scored on a 6-yard run early in the game to break the ice for the Oilers, added 20 carries for 153 yards.

Ian Haynes tossed a pair of touchdown passes for Franklin and was 20 of 27 for 280 yards while also throwing an interception. He hooked up with Dalton Buckley on a 69-yard score to put Franklin ahead 10-0 five minutes into the game and then found Eli Stewart on a 36-yard pass with just 53 seconds left in the first half to give the Knights the lead.

Buckley finished the night with eight catches for 125 yards, while Stewart had two grabs for 35 yards and also ran for a team-best 44 yards on eight totes.

Holden Stahl added a touchdown pass of nine yards to Max Latona for Oil City, while George Coon booted a 42-yard field goal to open the scoring for Franklin.

After Coon’s field goal and Buckley’s touchdown put Franklin ahead 10-0, Russell scored to cut the deficit to 10-6 before the Stahl to Latona connection gave Oil City its first lead, 14-10, with 1:42 left in the first half.
