OIL CITY, Pa. (EYT) — An Oil City teen is in the Venango County Jail on burglary and related charges stemming from the sale of a stolen handgun.

According to court documents, the Oil City Police Department filed criminal charges against 19-year-old Ryan Andrew Snyder, of Oil City.

On February 21, 2018, Oil City Police Officers along with agents from the PA Board of Probation and Parole executed a search warrant at a residence on East Second Street in the City of Oil City. Officers recovered a black in color Hi-Point 9mm handgun, according to a criminal complaint.

On February 23, a confirmation was received from the Department of Justice, Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives that the handgun was registered to a known Oil City woman who indicated that it was missing.

The complaint states that on March 15, Officer Ruditis and Chief Wenner, of the Oil City Police Department, discovered that Ryan Snyder had sold the gun to a known man who — once the known man discovered it was stolen — returned it to Snyder. Snyder then allegedly sold it to another individual.

Officers traveled to multiple residences in an attempt to make contact with Snyder to take him into custody based on the felony charges — as well as multiple outstanding summary warrants for his arrest. Officers subsequently took Snyder into custody, transported him to the Oil City Police Department, and then took him to the Venango County Jail on a detainer issued by agents from the PA Board of Probation and Parole, according to the complaint.

Snyder was arraigned at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, March 16, in Magisterial District Judge Andrew F. Fish’s office on the following charges:

– Burglary — Overnight Accommodations; Person Present, Felony 1
– Theft By Unlaw Taking-Movable Property, Felony 2
– Penalties — Sales to Ineligible Transferee, Felony 3

Unable to post $15,000.00 monetary bail, he was lodged in the Venango County Jail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on March 21 with Judge Fish presiding.
