OIL CITY, Pa. (EYT) — During Thursday evening’s Oil City Council meeting City Manager Mark Schroyer proposed forming a code enforcement committee in order to crack down on criminal behavior.

Following an August 12 discussion on high crime rates in Oil City, Schroyer proposed taking a more aggressive approach to code enforcement on blighted properties.

“We have to look at a more aggressive form (of enforcement) for the most problematic houses,” Schroyer explained.

The committee would hone in on around ten “problem properties,” which Schroyer said would entail financial commitment from the city.

“The time has come, and if it’s something we have to appropriate money during the budget process to account for it, then we’ll have to and hopefully we’ll be able to recoup the money at some point,” Schroyer said.

Schroyer plans to pursue the issue in the coming weeks and form a committee of seven to eight people.

Council did not release the addresses of the ten problem properties.
