OIL CITY, Pa. (EYT) — At Thursday night’s Oil City Council meeting, approval was given for bids to go out for the city-funded demolition project.

Currently, four properties will be demolished, although later in the year some more may be added.

The properties to be demolished include:

  • 45 Chestnut Street
  • 39 Grove Avenue
  • 409 East Fourth Street
  • A 3 stall garage on Plummer Street above Spruce Street on the left-hand side

There was a brief discussion about how the historic district designation makes it harder to tear down certain properties in the city and how it creates more paperwork for the city.

Councilman Ron Gustafson said he would vote to do away with the historic district designation, but Amos told him that wasn’t possible.

“We do need to have a discussion on how difficult it is to do demolition in the historic district,” City Manager Mark Schroyer said.
