VENANGO CO., Pa. (EYT) — An Oil City woman who left two small children home alone was sentenced on Friday to probation.

Court documents indicate 26-year-old Cherokee Davis, of Oil City, was sentenced to two years of probation on two second-degree misdemeanor counts of Recklessly Endangering Another Person by Judge Robert L. Boyer on Friday, March 8.

Davis pleaded guilty to the above charges on January 22, 2019.

As a result of the plea, the following charges were dismissed:

– Endangering Welfare of Children — Parent/Guardian/Other Commits Offense, Felony 3
– Endangering Welfare of Children — Parent/Guardian/Other Commits Offense, Misdemeanor 1

The case against Davis stems from an incident that occurred in August of 2018.

Details of the case:

According to a criminal complaint, on August 8, 2018, Oil City Police responded to a welfare check at a residence on Fern Court for a four-year-old child and a six-year-old child.

According to the complaint, the investigation revealed that Cherokee Davis left the two children home without adult supervision or anything to eat. Davis allegedly left her residence for work at 6:00 a.m. At 9:00 a.m., two children were found knocking on a neighbor’s door to tell the neighbor they were hungry.

The complaint notes that Davis contacted the neighbor earlier that day to ask if she would be able to babysit the children, and the neighbor said she would not be available due to appointments.

Davis was arraigned at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 8, in Magisterial District Judge Andrew F. Fish’s office.

Court documents indicate Davis was also sentenced to two years probation, to be served concurrently with her other sentence, on one first-degree misdemeanor count of Other Reason Access Device Is Unauthorized By Issuer on Friday following a parole revocation on January 22. A hearing related to the case is scheduled for Friday, March 29.
