CRANBERRY TWP., Pa. (EYT) — An Oil City woman is facing theft charges after she allegedly stole items from Walmart shelves and then returned them for a refund.

According to online court documents, Franklin-based State Police filed criminal charges against 28-year-old Janelle Marie Snyder, of Oil City.

According to a criminal complaint, on November 14, 2016, Janelle Snyder walked into Walmart and took five items of clothing off the shelves. She then allegedly took the clothes to the customer service desk and received $35.94. $24.30 was in cash, and the remaining $11.64 was in a gift card. Snyder then left the scene.

On December 27, 2016, Snyder walked into Walmart, retrieved an empty shopping cart, placed a Black & Decker Coffeemaker in her cart and then proceeded to the customer service desk and returned it for a $58.18 gift card.

On January 8, 2017, Trooper Siegel, of PSP Franklin, was dispatched to Walmart to speak with a Loss Prevention Associate about this case. The associate showed Trooper Siegel the receipts signed by Snyder.

On January 25, 2017, Trooper Siegel interviewed Snyder at her residence. She “initially denied having any knowledge of the incident but then remembered. She indicated that she goes to Meadville to the methadone clinic and has trouble remembering things,” according to the complaint.

Trooper Siegel related to Snyder that he observed videos of the incidents, and she allegedly did not deny involvement in the thefts, the complaint continues.

Snyder faces the following charges:

– Theft By Deception-False Impression, Misdemeanor 2
– Theft By Deception-False Impression, Misdemeanor 3

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on March 8 in front of Magisterial District Judge Patrick E. Lowrey.
