JACKSON TWP., Pa. (EYT) — An Oil City woman is facing felony theft and related charges after allegedly taking a ring from a residence where she worked as a part-time caregiver.

Court documents indicate the Franklin-based State Police filed the following criminal charges against 25-year-old Cassandra Louise Wood, of Oil City, on August 14:

– Theft By Unlawful Taking-Movable Property, Felony 3
– Receiving Stolen Property, Felony 3

According to a criminal complaint, sometime between October 15, 2017, and July 22, 2018, a known victim noticed that her anniversary ring was missing.

The victim was interviewed on July 22, 2018, and stated she had noticed before the ring was taken that is was missing a small diamond that surrounded the main stone. The victim said it was because of the missing stone that she placed it on the bedroom nightstand until she could get the stone replaced.

The victim said she looked for the ring for about a week before reporting it to the insurance company.

According to the complaint, the victim then noticed on Facebook that one of her mother’s part-time caregivers was wearing the same ring in several photographs.

The complaint states that Cassandra Wood was then interviewed on July 30, 2018. Wood allegedly stated she did care for the victim’s mother and she did take a ring matching the one the victim reported stolen.

Wood was shown a picture of the victim’s ring and “verified it was the ring she had taken,” according to the complaint.

Wood cooperated with police and looked for the ring but was unable to find it, the complaint indicates.

Based on the investigation, Wood was arraigned at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 15, in Magisterial District Judge Andrew F. Fish’s office.

She is free on $3,000.00 unsecured bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 29, with Judge Fish presiding.
