OIL CITY, Pa. — The Oil City YMCA has announced winter programs for December 2019 through February 2020 and encourages youth, adults and families to join in the fun.

YOUTH PROGRAMS

HOLIDAY BREAK FUN FOR KIDS  — December 23, 26, 27 & 30

Kids can have fun during the holiday break at the YMCA from 11 am—3 pm. each day.  Play games in the gym, swim, watch a movie and enjoy time with friends.  Holiday Break activities are free for members.  Non-member day passes available.

JR. NBA at the YMCA — Begins Jan.11

Basketball season is here for grades Kindergarten—Grade 5!  Learn fundamentals and skills through drills and live game play during this fun 6-week program starting January 11. Players receive NBA team shirts.  Jr. NBA meets on Saturdays.  Kindergarten 9:00 am; 1st & 2nd Grade 10:15 am; 3rd—4th 11:30 pm.; 5th-6th Grade 12:45 pm. $27/Members; $47/Non-members

JR. HIGH HOOPS LEAGUE — Begins Feb 28

The Jr, High Hoops League is open to youth in grades 5-8 with separate divisions for grades 5-6 and 7-8.  The league will begin on Friday, February 28. Games will be held at 7:00 pm on Fridays.  Youth will play in 8 total games All participants will receive t-shirts. $35/Members and $55/Non-members

TAE KWON DO — Begins Jan. 8

Tae Kwon Do is for ages six through adult.  Classes meet on Fridays at 6:00 pm in the gym.  Six week session fee is $22 Members and $32 Non-Members.  Next Session Begins:  January 8-February 12

NERF NIGHTS — Dec. 31, Jan. 28, Feb. 25

Nerf Nights is a fun and organized activity for youth ages 4+. (Youth ages 4-7 must have an adult present). Nerf Night is held on the last Tuesday of the month from 6:30—8:00 pm.   Players are divided into teams.  Safety glasses are nerf darts are provided.  Equipment is available to rent at the YMCA. Pre-registration is required.  Call 814-677-3000.  $3/Members and $5/ Non-Members.  Rentals are $2.

LEGO CLUB – Begins Jan. 7

Lego Club for grades K-8 meets on Tuesday evenings from 6:30—8 pm.  Fun monthly themes will inspire kids to create Lego masterpieces. Snacks and drinks will be provided during each club meeting.  Monthly Fee:  $10.

KIDS YOGA — Tuesdays, 6:15-7 pm

A Yoga for kids age 6-11 is an exciting program that will help with balance, strength, endurance, and aerobic skills.  Yoga for kids can help your child socially and academically by providing a better focus, increased memory, and improved behavior. Nicole Shreve teaches the class.  All supplies are provided.  Held Tuesdays, 6:15—7:00 pm.  $25/Members; $40 Non-members or $6/Members, $10/Non-members per class.  Begins January 7.

YMCA FEEDS KIDS – Mondays & Thursdays

Our YMCA Feeds Kids Food Program is offered free to any child through the age of 18.  Healthy meals are offered Monday and Thursday evenings throughout the school year from 6:30—7:30 pm in the multipurpose room. Enrichment activities including homework help, swimming, open gym and games are available 5:30 –6:30 pm.

PRE-K GYMNASTICS — Ages 3-5 — Monthly program

Youth in Pre-K Gymnastics learn basic skills and fundamentals.  This class is great for building strength while learning coordination and balance. Pre-K Gymnastics meets Mondays from 4:30—5:00 pm.  Limit 15 children per class. Monthly Fee is $12/Members and $20/Non-Members

FUNDAMENTAL GYMNASTICS — Ages 6+ — Monthly Program

Youth are introduced to skills in bar, vault, beam and floor routines.  For children wanting to pursue cheerleading and gymnastics, this program will help increase strength,        flexibility and agility.  Fundamental Gymnastics meets      Monday & Thursday from 5:15—6:15 pm.   Monthly fee is $32/Members and $55/Non-Members.

GYMNASTICS TEAM — Monthly program

The gymnastics team consists of gymnasts who have the  desire to compete.  The Oil City YMCA Tri-Stars compete at levels 2-9.  Team practices are Monday/Thursday 5:30-7:30 pm and other times TBA.  For more information, please callHead Coach Heather Marvin at 814-677-3000.  Team Fee is $50 per month.

FLIP & DIP — Monthly program

A 30 minute gymnastics lesson followed by a 30 minute beginner swim lesson for ages 3-5.  *Hint:  Kids wear swimsuits for the gymnastics lesson for a quick transition.  Parents must stay for the program to help with the transition.  Register by the first of each month.  Held Thursdays from 5-6:05 pm.  $20/Members; $40/Non-members.

TEEN ADVENTURE CLUB — Boys and Girls Ages 12-18

Members of the club will have opportunities to experience adventures like zip lining, hiking trips, kayaking, horseback riding, mountain biking, paintball and more.  To participate in the adventure, members will earn the privilege by volunteering for service activities within the community.  For more information contact Jen Kissell-Dudek, Aquatics Director at 814-677-3000. New members always welcome.  Adventure Club meets the first Wednesday of the month, 6 pm at the YMCA.

INTRO TO FITNESS — Teens Ages 12-15 — Monthly program

Work out with a wellness coach in a fun and educational setting.  The focus of the class will be on weight training and proper gym etiquette.  This program meets on Thursdays from 3:00—3:30 pm.  The class is limited to five participants.  Please register in advance at the Member Services Desk to reserve a spot.  Intro to Fitness is free to YMCA Members and non-members will pay $25 a month.

COMMUNITY YOUTH VOLUNTEER PROGRAM

The Community Youth Volunteer Program is open to Venango County youth between the ages of 10 and 18 . Participants in the program earn “time dollars” for each hour they volunteer up to 80 hours in a calendar year. The “time dollars” are   credited to the volunteer’s account at the rate of $4 an hour. AMERICAN RED CROSS LIFEGUARD CERTIFICATION — December 23-29

Learn teamwork, rescue and surveillance skills in this Lifeguard Training Course for ages 15+.  First Aid/CPR is included as part of the class.  Complete the online portion from December 23-27.  Attend both classroom sessions at the YMCA on December 28 from 12-8 pm and    December 29 from 12—5 pm. $175/Members; $200/Non-members.

WAVES OF FUN & FAMILY FUN NIGHT — Weekly

Pool party every Thursday from 7:15—8:30 pm and Friday from 7:00-8:30 pm at the Y pool.  Come and swim with the inflatable toys! FREE to Members!

SAFETY AROUND WATER — Free Swim Lessons for Youth—December 9-16, 2019

A free swim program for local youth ages 5-12 with little or no swimming ability.  This program will help kids learn basic swimming skills and important water safety.  Lesson plans are designed for grade school children with little or no swimming skills.  Kids will learn water safety, basic swimming skills, rescue skills while building character and having fun.  Session A:  5:35 pm –6:05 pm; Session B:  6:10 pm –6:40 pm.  Advance registration is required by calling 814-677-3000.

GROUP & PRIVATE SWIM LESSONS — Monthly program

For kids ages 6 weeks-12 years. ALL SWIMMERS MUST BE REGISTERED AT THE MEMBER SERVICE DESK BY THE 1ST OF EACH MONTH. Please visit the web site at www.oilcityymca.org/youthaquatics for class descriptions and non-member fees.

BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL CARE — Daily

ADULT PROGRAMS

CHRISTMAS COOKIE SWAP — December 18

Bring three dozen of your favorite homemade cookies on December 18 at 11:00 am.  Go home with three dozen in a variety of your choice! Held in the MP room.

ADULT PICK-UP BASKETBALL — Begins Jan. 7

Winter adult (18+) “pick-up” basketball begins January 7.  Pick-up basketball will be held every Tuesday night from 7-9 pm through March. Free for Members; $2 Drop-in Fee for Non-members.

POWERLIFTING COMPETITION — February 29

Showcase your lifting skills at a YMCA Powerlifting Meet held on Saturday, February 29 in the Gym.  Weigh-ins start at 8:30 am and lifts begin at 9:30 am.  Divisions are split by age and weight. Meet will consist of three lifts:  bench, squat and deadlift.  Reg. by Feb. 13 to guarantee a shirt.  $25/Members; $37/Non-members.

TAE KWON DO for AGES 6 THROUGH ADULT — Begins Jan 8

Classes meet on Fridays at 6:00 pm in the gym.  Six week session fee is $22 Members and $32 Non-Members. Next Session Begins:  January 8-February 12.

PICKLEBALL

Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in America.  The game is played in the YMCA gymnasium and utilizes a paddle and a pickleball.  The YMCA has three pickleball courts for casual and competitive play.  Beginners are encouraged to attend Wednesday mornings to learn the game and skills from more  experienced players.

AMYMSA MASTERS SWIM TEAM:  For ages 18—100

Do you miss being part of a team?  Are you looking for a great workout and a way to measure your results?  AMYMSA Masters Swim league is for you.  Practice in your free time and participate in monthly meets at surrounding pools.  There is a championship meet at the end of the season.  Team fee:  $30 YMCA Members; $50 Non-Members.

ARTHRITIS  AQUATIC PROGRAM — Monthly program

A series of gentle exercises to improve joint mobility and relieve pain and stiffness.  Class meets in the YMCA pool.  M/W/F 9-10 am.  Monthly fee:  Free for Members/$40 Non-members

AQUA AEROBICS—FREE FOR MEMBERS — Monthly program

An excellent form of exercise in the pool which is easy on the joints and offers all the benefits of a cardiovascular workout.  FREE to YMCA Members.

HOLIDAY SWIM CHALLENGE

Stay in shape with a holiday swim challenge. Swim 24 lengths on December 2, 23 lengths on December 3 and so on. On December 23 you will have one length to swim.  Register by December 2.  All who complete the challenge receive a t-shirt.  Cost:  15.

CARNIVAL SWIM CHALLENGE

Swim 23 miles in preparation for Fat Tuesday. Track your yardage as you challenge yourself to a healthier lifestyle.  Participants that complete the 23 miles will parade around in a new shirt!  The challenge is open to anyone age 8-99.  Begins January 2, 2020; Ends February 25, 2020. $20 for Members.

CHILD WATCH—FREE FOR MEMBERS

Child Watch is available in the YMCA facility for children 8 months to 8 years old, while their parents are using the YMCA facilities. Parents must remain inside the YMCA. Monday through Friday 9:00 am — 11:30 am and Monday through Thursday Evenings 5:00 pm — 7:00 pm.

GROUP EXERCISE CLASSES

NEW MEMBER SMART START

Smart Start is a free service for new YMCA members within the first month of joining. The program includes $150 in free personal coaching services. In three short meetings, a personal coach will help you become a confident individual who is excited about working out. In just a few sessions, you will gain the tools and resources that will help you succeed.

CARDIAC REHAB PHASE III

For people having completed a hospital supervised Phase I and II cardiac program.  Offered between the hours of 7:30-9:45 am on M/W/F. Monthly Fee:  $15 Members; $25 Non-members

HEALTHY FRIENDS PROGRAM

The perfect program for those who have completed physical therapy or who need to begin a regular exercise program.  Receive guidance and support to help you become stronger and healthier.  Offered between the hours of 7:30-9:45 am on M/W/F.   Level 1:  $15/Members;  $25/Non-members monthly.

 SENIOR PROGRAMS

SENIOR OPEN HOUSE – OPEN TO ALL COMMUNITY MEMBERS — January 17

Visit the Y on Friday, January 17 from 8:30-12:45 pm for an Open House and at 11:00 am for a member luncheon!  Tours will be available.  Take your insurance cards to find out if you qualify for a free membership. Sample classes:  Intro to Fitness 8:30 am; SilverSneakers Class 8:30 am; Arthritis Aquatics 9:00 am; Pickleball 9-11am; Water Aerobics 10:00 am.

SILVERSNEAKERS & SILVER & FIT PROGRAM —FREE FOR MEMBERS

Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement and activity for daily living skills. Please wear athletic shoes, comfortable clothes and bring a bottle of water.

SILVER CIRCUIT M/W/F 8:30-9:15 am in the Fitness Studio

Combine fun with fitness to increase your cardiovascular and muscular endurance power with a standing circuit workout. Upper body strength work with hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles and a SilverSneakers ball are alternated with low-impact aerobic choreography. A chair is used for standing support, stretching and relaxation exercises. Please wear   athletic shoes, comfortable clothes and bring a bottle of water.

SILVERSPLASH M/W/F 11:45 am-12:45 pm in the Pool

Activate your urge for variety. Splash offers fun, shallow-water movement to improve agility and flexibility while addressing cardiovascular, strength and endurance conditioning. No ability is required and a special SilverSneakers® kickboard or other aquatic equipment is used to improve strength, balance and coordination. Please wear water shoes and bring water in a plastic bottle.
