OIL CITY, Pa. — The YMCA has been a vital part of the Oil City community for over 130 years.

It has been a place of wholesome, healthy recreation, of developing healthy bodies, of renewing one’s mental being and building life-long friendships. Mostly, it has been a place for people of all ages to grow and thrive.

In 2018, the Oil City YMCA has a lot to offer to the person who is looking for a healthier way of life, a place to belong, friendships, and recreation.

As a non-profit that serves the community, the Y strives to keep memberships low while offering a variety of programming for people of all ages. Memberships at the Y begin at just $13 per month for youth and $23 a month for adults.

Senior Programming

The Oil City YMCA currently has over 500 senior members. Seniors are able to take advantage of special membership pricing and many receive free memberships through SilverSneakers and Silver&Fit insurance programs. Membership to the Y allows seniors to take advantage of free or reduced rates on programming. Many of the senior programs are free including pickleball, monthly member luncheons, aquatics classes, and special events.

Youth Programming

The YMCA has always been a safe place for kids to play basketball, swim and just hang out with friends. Youth have a variety of options while inside the YMCA. A youth center is available for teens who want to hang out, play ping pong, watch TV and be with friends. Staff, similar to hallway monitors, supervise the children in the building on evenings and weekends.

The Y offers free memberships to all area seventh grade students during the 2017-2018 school year. A plethora of programs for youth from pre-school through teenagers are offered throughout the year at the YMCA.

Favorites like swim team, swim lessons, gymnastics, Tae Kwon Do, basketball, soccer, hockey, tumble time, teen fitness, adventure club, and tee ball are offered throughout the year. New programs are added quarterly.

Adult Fitness Programs

Adult members of the YMCA stay connected and focused on their goals through programs like the New Year, New You Weight Loss Challenge, member wellness challenges, pickleball, and group exercise throughout the year. A masters swim team is available for adult competitive swimming and adult basketball leagues, powerlifting meets, luncheons, and events like an indoor triathlon and the Turkey Trot 5K.
