Oil City’s Mumford, Franklin’s Eshelman Qualify for PIAA XC Championships

SHARON, Pa. (EYT) – The Oil City girls’ cross country team just missed qualifying for the PIAA Championships finishing third at the District 10 Class 2A meet Saturday in Sharon, but the Oilers Olivia Mumford qualified as an individual as did Franklin’s Jacob Eshelman in boys’ 2A.

Oil City scored 120 points finishing behind Villa Maria (56) and General McLane (80).

Mumford, only a freshman, finished 10th to qualify for the PIAA Championships running a time of 20:09.

Also for the Oilers, Alexis Hawthorne (22nd), Emma Stevenson (26th), Maggie Motter (27th), Caroline Stevens (35th), Abby Douglass (40th) and Kalista Hale (48th).

Franklin’s top finisher was Breanna Coast in 47th place.

In the girls’ Class 1A race, Rocky Grove’s top finisher was Katie Ferricks in 58th place.

In boys’ Class 2A action, Oil City finished seventh (241) and Franklin (13th).

Top runners for the Oilers were Magnum Vincent in 27th place and Spencer McFall in 28th place.

Eshelman led the Franklin boys and qualified for the PIAA Championships by finishing 10th in a time of 17:07.

The Class 1A boys’ race saw Rocky Grove finish 10th led by a 23rd-place finish by Gage Shoemaker.
