Oil Creek State Park to Hold Array of Programs in August

Oil CreekOIL CITY, Pa. – Oil Creek State Park has an array of events set up for the public throughout the month of August, including hikes and educational survival demonstrations.

The Pennsylvania Fisher

Join Rhonda Bimber of the Pennsylvania Game Commission for a PowerPoint presentation about the amazing animal known as the fisher. Meet at The Oil Creek State Park Office Amphitheater on August 4 at 6:30 p.m. for this free one-hour presentation.

Scenic Gerard Trail Hike

Join the Park Naturalist to explore a four-mile section of the scenic Gerard Trail. Meet at the State Park Office on August 7 at 10:00 a.m.

This three-hour hike will take until 1:00 p.m.

Dress for the weather.

Bring food and drinks along with good footwear and bug spray.

Primitive Fire Making for Survival and Getting Good Drinking Water

Fire and water are important to survival in the wild. Join the Blood Farm on August 13 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. for a hands-on experience in obtaining good drinking water and making a survival fire.

Pioneer Secrets Uses of Native Wild Plants

Join the Naturalist for a detailed look at the many uses of native plants for food, medicine, and daily life by the early pioneers who first settled this area.

Meet on August 21 at 12:30 p.m. for this one-hour presentation at the Oil Creek State Park Office Amphitheater.
