School officials said an additional 272 students are preparing to receive their diplomas in front of an approximate 2,200-strong audience at a ceremony in A.J. Palumbo Center at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh this Saturday.

“I would like to thank all of the families for entrusting us with their child’s education,” PA Cyber CEO, Brian Hayden, said. “They have chosen PA Cyber and we are proud of the ways we have worked together to realize this day.”

Hayden was one of two school officials to address the Class of 2017 with a message of “be the change that you want.”

“High school graduation is one of the most important milestones in our lives; it recognizes not only past successes, but also future opportunities,” he said.

“To all of our graduates, we wish them all the best as they move into the next stage of their lives. We hope we have given them the skills, confidence, and momentum to become successful, happy adults,” he said.

PA Cyber Chief Academic Officer, Alan Fritz, also addressed the students.

The graduating class chose Zionsville resident Rachel Lazarro as its class representative to address the Kutztown audience. Her plans after graduation include attending Temple University to study public health.

Tunkhannock resident Gwendolyn Murray, daughter of Dr. Patrick and Linda Murray, was chosen by her classmates to represent them at the Pittsburgh ceremony. After graduating, Murray plans to attend Saint Vincent College to major in psychology.

PA Cyber ArtReach instructor Amy Zachewicz assembled choirs comprised of students aged 10-18 to sing Randy Newman’s Academy Award winning “You’ve Got a Friend in Me.” The Pittsburgh Trombone Project also performed.

Graduates at the Pittsburgh ceremony also paid tribute to high school English teacher Araina Tivis, who passed away last February at the age of 39.

PA Cyber faculty members presented the graduates with their diplomas.
