Pa. State Police Capture New York Man Accused of Killing Mother

ERIE, Pa. (EYT) — Erie-based State Police arrested a man Thursday evening who was a fugitive from justice and is wanted on murder charges in the state of New York.

Erie-based State Police say the man, 48-year-old Wayne Edward Kozak, of Eden, New York, was taken into custody around 7:01 p.m. without incident at a Super 8 Hotel in Summit Township.

Kozak is awaiting extradition back to New York to face homicide charges.

According to state police, they received a phone call from New York State Police that they were conducting an investigation into a murder that occurred in Eden on Wednesday, April 19.

They had obtained a warrant for Kozak’s arrest and learned that he was in Summit Township. Police were give a description of Kozak’s vehicle which was located in parking lot of Super 8 Motel. Troopers confirmed the presence of Kozak, made entrance into his hotel room, and took him into custody.

According to a published article on wivb.com, Kozak is accused of the fatal shooting of his mother, Mary Louise Kozak.

According to the Chief of Police in Eden, it was the first murder in 30 years.
