Paul J. Ion

Paul J. Ion, Jr., 84, of Clarion, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday morning, August 14, 2018, at the McKinley Health Center in Brookville.

He was born on January 1, 1934, in Six Points, Butler County; son of the late Rev. Paul and Dorothy Best Ion.

Paul graduated from East Brady High School in 1950 and married his High School sweetheart, Peggy Carnahan, on June 2, 1954, and they enjoyed sixty-four years together. He retired from Commodore Homes after forty years of service.

Paul was a member of the First Baptist Church in Clarion, sang in the Choir, and loved music. He was also a member of the YMCA and was an avid Penn State fan.

Paul loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. He also loved flowers, woodworking, golfing, and gardening.

Paul was a friend to everyone he met. He was a dedicated Christian family man who lived his life selflessly. He exemplified the Lord in his life and his strong will and fighting spirit were an inspiration to many.

Together, Paul and Peggy raised three wonderful children and are survived by Don Ion and his wife Alyssa of Franklin, Rhonda Towse and her husband Dale of Ohio, and Mike Ion and his fiancé Melisa of Shippenville, ten grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, and many close friends.

He is also survived by his sister, Janet Hutson of Tennessee.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, his mother and father-in-law, Don and Orpha Carnahan, his sister and brother-in-law, Marie and Bill Nulph, and brother-in-law, Juilian Hutson.

Paul’s family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 16, 2018, at the Robert V. Burns Funeral Home in Clarion.

Additional visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 17, 2018, at the First Baptist Church of Clarion where Funeral Services will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the Church with Rev. Jason Hunter, pastor presiding.
