5962c1a5720fdPaul R. Delo, 88, of Rockland Township, died Saturday evening, July 8, 2017 at Oil City Healthcare and Rehab following a courageous six year battle with cancer.

He was born in East Brady on March 20, 1929; a son to the late Richard E. and Dolly Mae (Pascorell) Delo.

He attended schools in Clarion County before enlisting in the U.S. Army and serving during the Korean War. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart due to injuries he received during combat.

Paul enjoyed reading, square dancing, antique cars, watching the Pirates and Steelers on television, collecting belt buckles, and vacationing with his family.

In his earlier years, he worked for the State Highway and Ames Trucking. He then became employed by Joy Manufacturing in Franklin as an assemblyman and retired in 1993 following 29 years of service.

He was married in the Rockland United Methodist Church on June 24, 1964 to the former Nancy J. McCord, and she survives, along with their three children: Brian Delo of Rockland, Gregory Delo and his wife Dawn of Severn, Maryland, and Brenda Ochs and her husband Andrew of Lucinda; and four grandchildren: Cody and Kari Delo of Severn, and Brandon and Allison Ochs of Lucinda.

Also surviving is a brother, Robert “Fuzzy” Delo and his wife Ruth of Knox; three sisters: Betty Burris of Knox, Bessie Delo of Clarion, and Mary Larimore and her husband Charles of Leesburg, Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by an infant daughter; a sister, Patricia Sollinger; and three brothers, Charles, Richard, and Donald Delo.

Friends will be received Tuesday (July 11) from 1 – 3 and 5 – 7 p.m. in the Hile-Best Funeral Home, Inc., 2781 Rte. 257 in Seneca, Cranberry Township.

The VETS Honor Guard will accord full military honors in the funeral home Tuesday at 7 p.m., followed by a funeral service.

Interment will be in Rockland Cemetery in Kennerdell.

The Delo family extends their sincere thanks and appreciation to Dr. Howard Kirtland and staff, and the Oil City Healthcare and Rehab for their care and compassion.
