VICTORY TOWNSHIP, Pa. (EYT) — Franklin-based State Police say around 8:18 p.m. on October 16, a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle on State Route 8, south of Fisherman’s Cove Road, in Victory Township, Venango County.

According to police, 30-year-old Jeremy L. Sweetapple, of Oil City, was walking in the middle of the southbound left hand lane of Route 8.

A 2014 Chevrolet Cruze was traveling south on SR 8 when the operator saw Sweetapple in his travel lane. The operator was not able to avoid the impact due to traffic congestion, police say.

Sweetapple was struck by the vehicle, causing him to be thrown onto the roadway, according to police.

He suffered major head injuries and was transported to Allegheny General Hospital, police say.

The operator of the vehicle was using a seat belt and was not injured.

The vehicle sustained disabling damage.

According to police, contributing factors to the incident include Sweetapple wearing all dark clothing while walking on the roadway, darkness, and rain conditions.

Assisting at the scene were Sandycreek and Clintonville Fire Departments; Community Ambulance Service; Stat Medevac; and Lowrey’s Towing.

No other information was provided.
