Washington Crossing Bridge Rehabilitation Slated to Begin Next August

| August 11, 2014

FRANKLIN, Pa. – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is currently designing a rehabilitation project for the Route 62 (Washington Crossing) bridge over French Creek in the City of Franklin.

Work will involve placing concrete around two piers in French Creek to control scouring at the base of the piers. The project is expected to take approximately 45 days. The construction is expected to begin Aug. 3, 2015 and be completed around mid-September.

No detour is anticipated, but traffic on the bridge will be reduced to one lane in each direction.

The southbound traffic lanes going into Franklin from Oil City will be closed during the construction period to allow a crane to be parked in those lanes in order to lower equipment and materials to the worksite at the base of the piers.

Southbound traffic will be diverted to a northbound lane, providing a single lane southbound into Franklin and a single outbound from Franklin.

The project cannot begin until after August 1, 2015, due to stream restrictions associated with threatened and endangered species of aquatic life in French Creek.

Boat traffic on French Creek will be provided buoy signs for safe travel through construction area.
