PennDOT, Safety Partners to Host Bicycle Rodeo Saturday in Oil City

OIL CITY, Pa. — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), Venango Area Chamber of Commerce, and Cub Scout Pack 17 of Oil City will hold a free children’s bicycle rodeo on Saturday, July 21, 2018.

The rodeo will take place in the parking lot for of Justus Park in downtown Oil City. The event is open to ages 5 to 12. Registration will begin at 10:00 a.m. with activities from 10:30 a.m. through noon. All attendees should bring a bike and helmet and be accompanied by a parent or guardian who can sign a permission slip for participation.

The rodeo will consist of safety activities, games, and bicycle/helmet inspections. Rep. R Lee James will provide a hot dog lunch, for all attendees. Prize bags will be distributed on a first come first serve basis.

Wearing a helmet is required for participation in the rodeo. A limited number of free helmets will be available compliments of Safe Kids Clarion-Venango. The goal of the children’s bike rodeo is to interest kids in bicycling, educate them on safety requirements, and instill in them safe biking habits.

PennDOT will be offering free Bicycle safety toolkits for children and adult bikers. The kits include items such as bicycle reflectors, tire repair kits, and blinking clip-on lights. These free kits are made available through the Nonmotorized Safety Grant Funds authorized under the Fast Act to improve communication between new, veteran, and children bikers as well as motorists.

This free event is part of the Oil Heritage Festival. It is made possible through the additional support of the Oil Heritage Festival Committee, Venango County Sheriff’s Office, and American League of Bicyclists.
