| August 1, 2013

OIL CITY, Pa. – PennDOT announces a project to replace a 93-year-old structurally deficient bridge on McCune Road in Canal Township, Venango County.

The 43-foot-long bridge is located over McCune Run, just south of the McCune Road intersection with Old 322 Road.

Work is expected to start on Monday, Aug. 5, 2013. The road is expected to reopen in October and work on the project is scheduled to be completed in May 2014.

The contractor is Shingledecker’s Welding, Inc. of Franklin, Pa. The contract cost is $538,001.80, with 80 percent of the cost paid with federal funds and 20 percent with state funds.

The existing steel girder bridge, which was built in 1920, will be replaced with a single-span composite spread box beam bridge. Work also includes construction of concrete bridge approach slabs, paved roadway approaches and updated drainage, guiderail and signs.

An average of approximately 144 vehicles a day use the bridge.

A detour will be posted using Old 322 Road and Stevens Road.
