FRANKLIN ,Pa.  – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s northwest region presented a winter safety program to preschoolers at the Child Development Center Inc. (CDC) in Franklin, Venango County.

Tony Sloss and Ben Villar, employees of PennDOT’s Venango County Maintenance Unit, had two plow trucks on hand as part of the November 1 program. After listening to a safety lesson and touring the equipment, the children and their teachers were given the opportunity to sign the snow plows.

PennDOT reminds parents and children to practice the following winter safety tips:

  • Never play near a roadway, especially in large snow piles.
  • Do not throw snowballs at vehicles.
  • Never sled ride on an open road.
  • Always wear warm, dry clothing.

Motorists can check conditions on more than 40,000 roadway miles, including color-coded winter conditions on 2,900 miles, by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information, and access to more than 850 traffic cameras.
