Pennsylvania State Police Looking for Qualified Cadets

CadetsHARRISBURG, Pa. – The Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) is currently hiring for the position of State Police Cadet.

Qualified applicants who submit applications before 11:59 p.m. EST on June 30, 2016, will be eligible for the next written exam that is anticipated to be held in August 2016. Those applications received after June 30 will be held on file for future examinations.

Since qualified candidates will receive further instruction by email, it is important that contact information given on the application is current. To update contact information, candidates may log back into the application using their email address and password given during the online application.

“The Pennsylvania State Police is committed to finding the best and most qualified candidates available to fill the ranks of the department,” said State Police Commissioner Tyree C. Blocker. “These individuals will be important stewards of public safety, maintaining the department’s position as the “first and finest” while rising to the challenges of 21st century policing.”

Upon completion of the Pennsylvania State Police Academy, new troopers will receive a starting salary of $58,962. Additionally, shift differential and overtime pay are paid as applicable. New troopers and their dependents are eligible for the provided health care program, dental care program, vision care plan, prescription drug program and a health reimbursement account. The commonwealth pays the entire cost of all coverage for the trooper and their eligible family members.

The department currently has 4,380 enlisted members. Formed in 1905, the PSP provides police service for over 1,700 municipalities in addition to patrolling the Pennsylvania Turnpike and various interstates.
