Philadelphia Man Accused of Using Franklin Man’s Online Walmart Account to Purchase Apple Watch

FRANKLIN, Pa. (EYT) — A Philadelphia man faces charges from an incident that occurred last year in which he allegedly used a Franklin man’s Walmart account, without permission, to purchase an Apple Watch.

Court documents indicate 24-year-old Prince Osei Boafo was arraigned in front of Magisterial District Judge Matthew T. Kirtland at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 18, on the following charges:

– Computer Theft, Felony 3
– Access Device Issued to Another Who Did Not Authorize Use, Misdemeanor 1
– Theft By Deception-Prevent Acquiring Of Information, Misdemeanor 1
– Theft By Unlawful Taking-Movable Property, Misdemeanor 1
– Identity Theft, Misdemeanor 1

Unable to post $100,000.00 (10%) monetary bail, he was lodged in the Venango County Jail.

He was released on February 18 on a cash security posted by a private surety.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 26, with Judge Kirtland presiding.

The charges stem from an investigation into a reported fraudulent purchase.

According to a criminal complaint, on August 7, 2019, it was discovered that a known Venango County victim’s personal Walmart online account was accessed on August 6, 2019, without his knowledge or consent, and an Apple Watch was purchased for a total of $316.94, using the victim’s personal credit card that was attached to his account.

According to the complaint, an investigation into the matter found the purchased item was picked up in person at a Walmart store in Bensalem, Pa. The information attached to the pick-up order named Prince O. Boafo.

The complaint states video and photos were obtained from the Bensalem Walmart store for the order pick-up, which identified Prince Boafo as the person who picked up the order.

The charges were filed through Magisterial District Judge Matthew T. Kirtland’s office on August 20, 2019.
