PLEASANTVILLE, Pa. (EYT) — A Pleasantville man is facing theft by deception charges after he allegedly sold a pickup truck to the victim and did not provide a title for it.

According to court documents, the following criminal charges were filed against 23-year-old Austin Paul Sonne, of Pleasantville, on September 20:

– Theft By Deception-False Impression, Misdemeanor 1
– Theft By Deception-Failure To Correct, Misdemeanor 1
– Failure To Deliver Title, Summary
– Transfer Ownership/Duty Of Transferee, Summary

According to a criminal complaint filed on September 20 by Trooper Reiger, of Butler-based State Police, on June 15, the victim went to Austin Sonne’s residence and purchased a 1976 Ford F100 for $1,200.00. Sonne did not provide a title as required by law.

The complaint states that the victim had the vehicle towed to his residence, which is approximately two miles away.

The victim, who was interviewed on July 24, told Trooper Reiger that he found the truck on Facebook marketplace, and Sonne said that he would transfer the title but has not done so. He contacted Sonne, and Sonne told him that another known man had the title and would transfer it to him. He messaged the known man on Facebook and that man told him that he would transfer the title, but didn’t. The victim cannot legally drive the truck until he has the vehicle titled in his name, according to the complaint.

Sonne was interviewed on September 17. He advised that he traded another guy a few cars and other items for the truck that he sold to the victim. He stated that he never had the title transferred to him, and he gave the victim the owner’s information to get the title transferred, according to the complaint.

The complaint indicates that the restitution in this case is to the victim for $1,200.00 or have a valid title transferred.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on October 30 in Venango County Central Court with Magisterial District Judge Andrew F. Fish presiding.

A certified summons was issued to Sonne on September 20.
