PIKE COUNTY, Pa. — Yesterday investigators searched the wooded area near the Blooming Grove police barracks where two State Police Troopers were ambushed on Friday evening. One trooper was fatally shot; the other is in critical condition.

Cpl. Bryon Dickson, 38, of Dunmore, died at the scene. He is survived by his wife, Tiffany, and two young boys.

He was a seven-year veteran. He is the 95th state trooper to be killed in the line of duty since the Pennsylvania State Police was founded in 1905.

Sources say the surviving trooper, Alex T. Douglass, 31, of Olyphant, underwent surgery and is in critical but stable condition at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton.

On Saturday, law enforcement officers from Pennsylvania, New York, and New Jersey searched state game lands surrounding the barracks in Pike County.

Agents from the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives have joined in the investigation.

A “person of interest” was interviewed, but no arrests were made, and the investigation remains open, according to sources.

Police did not release a description of the gunman. It is unknown whether any surveillance video captured the shooting.

Pennsylvania Crime Stoppers asks anyone with information to call 800-4PA-TIPS, submit the tip online, or call the state police hotline at 1-866-326-7256.

Blooming Grove, a township of about 4,000 people, is located about 35 miles east of Scranton.
