Franklin-based State Police say the accident occurred just west of the Clintonville exit around 1:33 a.m. and involved Timothy R. McNutt, 51, of Parma, Oh., and Nikola Vuljevic, 55, of West Nyack, NY.

Police say both drivers were traveling at a high rate of speed when McNutt’s tractor-trailer traveled off the south berm.

McNutt attempted to re-enter the roadway and his truck subsequently tipped over and rolled onto its side.

The trailer of McNutt’s vehicle was then struck by Vuljevic’s tractor-trailer.

Police say Vuljevic’s vehicle traveled through McNutt’s trailer, splitting it in half, and then rolled onto its side before coming to rest on the south berm.

“The driver of the first truck said that he swerved to miss a deer,” said Clintonville Fire Chief Gerry Rae.

The impact caused both trailers to spill their loads across Interstate 80.

Vuljevic was transported to Grove City Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

McNutt was not injured.

They were both wearing safety belts.

Both drivers were cited for driving too fast.

Both lanes of Interstate 80 Westbound were shut down for several hours while crews cleaned up the wreckage. Traffic was later opened to one lane until the scene was fully cleared around 6 p.m.
