CORNPLANTER TWP., Pa. (EYT) — Franklin-based State Police say a one-car accident occurred on State Route 227, west of Grandview Road, in Cornplanter Township, Venango County.

According to police, around 11:41 a.m. on December 22, 66-year-old Christine G. Shattenberg, of Oil City, was traveling north on Cherry Run Road (Route 227) and fell asleep at the wheel.

Police say Shattenberg under-compensated while negotiating a left curve, and her 2008 Volvo S80 went off the right side of the roadway and struck a ditch and several small trees.

The vehicle came to a final rest on the right side of the roadway against the base of a tree that had previously fallen, according to police.

Shattenberg was using a seat belt and was not injured.

She was charged with a traffic violation.

Cornplanter Volunteer Fire Department and Venango Towing assisted at the scene.
