| August 10, 2018

RICHLAND TWP., Pa. (EYT) – State police have released the details of a chain-reaction crash involving four semi-trucks that occurred on Interstate 80 in Richland Township Tuesday afternoon.

According to police, the crash occurred around 4:24 p.m. on Tuesday, August 7, on Interstate 80 westbound at the 44.4 mile marker in Richland Township in the work-zone area in the left lane of the highway. The right lane in this area was closed at the time of the crash.

Police say 41-year-old Mykhalio Turchak, of Chicago, IL, who was operating a 2013 Volvo T750, failed to reduce speed for slow-moving traffic ahead and struck the trailer of a 2017 Freightliner operated by 60-year-old Keith A. Bright, of Youngstown, OH, pushing Bright’s vehicle into the trailer of a 2014 Freightliner operated by 54-year-old Branko A. Perisic of Parma, OH.

Police say a 2006 Kenworth T1000 operated by 52-year-old Dwayne E. Shetler of Defiance, OH, then struck the trailer pulled by Turchak’s vehicle from behind. That impact caused Shetler’s vehicle to travel into the right closed lane and the right embankment.

All persons involved were wearing seatbelts and no injuries were reported.

Bright’s vehicle, Turchak’s vehicle, and Shetler’s vehicle sustained disabling damage.

Turchak was cited for a speed violation, and Shetler was cited for following too closely.

Hovis Towing, Emlenton Fire Department, and PennDOT assisted at the scene.
