OIL CITY, Pa. (EYT) – Two Oil City women are facing tampering with evidence and related charges after allegedly swallowing methamphetamine as police approached.

Court documents indicate the Oil City Police Department filed criminal charges against 28-year-old Shalesha Nachole Kinney and 22-year-old Kaila Rae Rose Sloan, both of Oil City.

According to a criminal complaint, on Monday, June 4, Patrolmen Rosenberger and Ruditis and Chief Wenner were attempting to locate Kaila Sloan who was wanted on an active warrant.

Around 12:30 p.m., information was received on Sloan’s whereabouts. The three officers drove to the area of Clarion Street in Oil City, where they observed Sloan and another woman, identified as Shalesha Kinney, walking down Clarion Street.

The complaint states that upon approaching the women, Patrolman Rosenberger saw Sloan walking away, attempting to put something into her mouth.

Patrolmen Rosenberger and Ruditis continued to approach the women and detained them. Sloan was placed under arrest.

During the course of the investigation, it was learned that Kinney was currently on probation and parole. Agent See was contacted and he advised that Kinney should be taken into custody, as she was currently wanted by probation and parole as an absconder.

Both women were transported back to the Oil City Police Department.

According to the complaint, the three officers then began to inventory the women’s property.

In the main compartment of Kinney’s purse, two hypodermic needles containing suspected methamphetamine and other items of drug paraphernalia were located, according to the complaint.

In Sloan’s purse, they located two hypodermic needles and other drug paraphernalia including a newspaper with the corners ripped off, the complaint states.

Kinney and Sloan allegedly admitted to swallowing approximately one gram of methamphetamine each, the complaint indicates.

The following charges were filed against both Kinney and Sloan on Tuesday, June 5, in Magisterial District Judge Andrew F. Fish’s office:

– Intentional Possession of Controlled Substance By Person Not Registered, Misdemeanor
– Use/Possession Of Drug Paraphernalia, Misdemeanor
