Man Wins Contest by Bagging Huge Coyote in Venango County

FRENCHVILLE, Clearfield Co., Pa. (EYT) — A man hunting in Venango County bagged a 53-pound coyote Friday to win a contest put on by a sportsmen’s club.

According to results on the Mosquito Creek Sportsmen’s Association website at mosqcreek.com, Michael Galbraith was hunting with dogs Friday afternoon when he shot the big male with a 12-gauge shotgun during the hunt that ran Friday to Sunday.

Galbraith’s coyote topped a field of 193 weighed in by 4,836 hunters that were registered for the Mosquito Creek Sportsmen’s Association coyote hunt, which is the oldest and largest of Pennsylvania’s organized hunts. The Venango County coyote won a prize of $9,672 for Galbraith.

According to the Pa. Game Commission, adult male coyotes in Pennsylvania weigh 45-55 pounds.

The second largest coyote weighed in the Mosquito Creek contest was a 48.65-pound male from Tioga County that won $5,803.20 for hunter Tom Sherman. Third place went to a 45.55-pound male from Susquehanna County that won $3,868.80 for hunter Dustin Holl.
