MERCER CO., Pa. — Work to give drivers a smoother ride on Interstate 80 in Mercer County has been expanded to include 11 more miles of highway.

Additional funds were secured to do concrete patching, sealing, and asphalt paving on the eastbound and westbound lanes on Interstate 80 from milepost 4 to milepost 15 in East Lackawannock, Shenango, and Lackawannock townships. The work is being done in conjunction with an ongoing project to improve 6.6 miles of Interstate 80 from Exit 15 (Route 19) to the area of Springfield Church Road (Route 2007) at milepost 21.

Construction within the extended work zone area is expected to start September 6, 2018, and to be complete by October 30, 2018.

The contractor is Lindy Paving, Inc. of New Galilee, PA. The contract cost for the additional work is approximately $1.3 million, which is to be paid entirely with federal funds.

No detours are expected, but motorists will encounter lane restrictions, with traffic controlled by signs and devices. Motorists should anticipate seeing work zones set up during nights and weekends as needed.

PennDOT urges motorists to slow down when driving in work zones, and also to be alert to changing conditions, avoid distractions and to pay attention to signs and flaggers. Drive responsibly in work zones for your safety and the safety of the workers.
