VENANGO CO., Pa. – A project to preserve and rehabilitate three bridges over Interstate 80 in Clinton and Scrubgrass townships, Venango County will start Monday, August 13, 2018.

The three bridges included in the project carry Route 308, Rockdale Road (Route 3007), and Stone Church Road (Route 3009) over Interstate 80. All three pre-stressed concrete box beam bridges were built in 1964.

The project at the Rockdale Road bridge in Scrubgrass Township will start on August 13, 2018. It is expected to be completed by October 12, 2018.

The Rockdale Road bridge is classified as functionally obsolete and is used by an average of 235 vehicles each day. Work at this location will include milling the existing pavement, paving, pier repairs and encasing, and waterproofing.

The bridge will be closed to traffic from August 24, 2018. A detour will be posted using Indian Rocks Road (SR 3010), Route 208, and Stone Church Road (SR 3009). The detour is expected to last 20 days.

Work on the Route 308 and Stone Church Road bridges is scheduled for the 2019 construction season.

The Route 308 bridge is classified as functionally obsolete and is used by an average of 1,500 vehicles each day. Work at this location will include milling the existing pavement and pouring a new bridge deck. There will be separate detours for northbound and southbound traffic, which are expected to be in place for two months in 2019.

The Stone Church Road bridge is classified as poor condition. It is used by an average of 165 vehicles each day. Work at this location will include milling existing pavement and pouring a new bridge deck. The bridge will be closed during constriction and a two-month detour is expected in 2019.

The contractor is Thornbury, Inc. of Sunbury, PA. The contract cost is $2,504,834.10, which is to be paid entirely with state funds.

This project was made possible by Act 89, Pennsylvania’s transportation funding plan.
