Police Pursuit Leads to DUI, Drug Arrest in Barkeyville

BARKEYVILLE BOROUGH, Pa. (EYT) – A police pursuit that began in southern Venango County early this morning led to several charges for a Butler County man.

According to Franklin-based State Police, around 12:49 a.m. on Monday, March 11, a traffic stop was attempted on a vehicle at the intersection of State Route 8 and Walnut Street in Barkeyville Borough.

Police say the driver, a known Chicora man, failed to stop and a pursuit began. The pursuit traveled toward Clintonville, then south into Butler County on State Route 308.

Butler-based State Police then deployed spike strips and struck the target vehicle, which stopped approximately one-half mile later.

According to police, the driver then exited the vehicle and ran on foot through a yard and into the woods. The driver then fell, and troopers placed him under arrest.

Police say a vape pen with suspected marijuana wax was found on the driver and he admitted to smoking a few hours before the pursuit.

Charges of fleeing and eluding police, DUI, possession, and paraphernalia have been filed through Magisterial District Court 28-3-04.

The name of the driver was not released.
