Raymond W. “Sonny” Dittmer, 71, of Reed Road, Fenelton, Clearfield Twp., died unexpectedly of natural causes at 10:50 p.m. Saturday evening, August 25, 2012 at his residence.

Raymond was born in Herman on September 18, 1940. He was the son of Raymond W. and Erba Schontz Dittmer.

He was of the Catholic faith. He attended St. Mary Catholic School in Herman and Butler High School.

He enjoyed camping, hunting, and the company of his grandchildren.

He had been employed by Pullman Standard and was a school bus driver for Valley Bus Line. He and his wife, Linda, had owned and operated the Point Bar in Chicora.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran, as well as a U.S. Air Force veteran, having served during the Vietnam era. He was a member of the Butler American Legion Post #117, the VFW and Eagle’s Club in Kane.

He is survived by his wife, Linda K. Lybrand Dittmer. The couple was married in Columbia, SC, and would have celebrated their 53rd anniversary on September 5. Also surviving is a daughter, Judy Dittmer, of West Sunbury; two sons, Robby Dittmer of Fenelton, and Larry A. Dittmer of Butler; four grandchildren, Donny Dittmer of Chicora, Diana Dittmer and Bricker Dittmer of Fenelton, and A1C Patrick Sherman of Luke Air Force Base, AZ; two brothers, Ted Dittmer and his wife, Phyllis, of Butler and Tim Dittmer of Herman; five sisters, Rose Mary Ashe and her husband, Richard, of Fenelton, Sally Holsinger of Butler, Nancy Catterall of Herman, Betty Lou Henry and her husband, James, of Herman, Sue LeMasters of Herman; as well as an aunt, a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Donald.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Saint John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church 668 Clearfield Rd., Fenelton. Military honors will be accorded in the cemetery. Memorial contributions in Raymond’s name may be made to the East Butler Volunteer Fire Dept., 808 Grant Street, East Butler, PA 16029 or to the family.
