Richard A. “Dick” Gardiner

Richard A. “Dick” Gardiner, 70, of 610 Maxwell Dr. Titusville, PA. died at 5:28 A.M. Saturday July 19, 2014 in Oil City at his companions home after a year long fight with cancer.

Born Jan. 21, 1944 in Oil City, he was the son of the late Jack & Marie Gardiner.

Dick was a 1961 graduate of Oil City High School.

He was a veteran of the United States Navy  serving from 1962-1965.

Mr. Gardiner had worked as a chemist for Cytemp, before retiring.

He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed fishing, hunting and boating with his grandchildren.

Everyone will remember him by his smile and his infectious laugh.

Dick was a member of the VFW, the Keystone Goldwings and the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club

He enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Steelers and Penn State.

He had taken several trips out west to hunt with good friend Dick Harmon.

Richard attended St. Stephen’s Church.

He had volunteered for the American Cancer Society.

Survivors include 2 daughters, Jacqueline Ferency & her husband Leonard Ferency Jr. of South Park, Pa. and Kristy Green & her companion Lance Titus of Titusville; 5 Grandchildren, Luke, Jacob, Dylan, Sydney and Cassandra; his loving companion of 28 years, Betty Hovis of Oil City; Betty’s children, Mike Hovis of Roanoke, VA, Jeff Hovis & his wife Aimee of Oregon, Greg Hovis & his wife Marsha of Indianapolis; and Betty’s grandchildren, Hayden, Ethan, Logan and Seth; 2 sisters, Beverly Gardiner & her companion Doug Beal of Oil City, Martha Fornof & her companion Dianna Greathouse of Jacksonville, FL; a brother-in-law, Terry Kapp of Wilson, NC.; a niece, Deanna Flowers of NC; his former wife Karen Murphy Gardiner  of Titusville; and a brother-in-law James Murphy of Titusville

In addition to his parents, he was precdeded in death by a sister, Donna Kapp and a nephew Kirby Goodman..

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday in St. Stephen’s Church with Fr. Matthew Ruyechan, Presiding.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to VNA Hospice

The family would like to extend their thanks to the Titusville Oncology Unit, Dr. Sedov and nurses Tricia, Judy and Deb.
