Richard D. “Dick” Rumbaugh, 70, of Pine Ridge Drive, Chicora, a long-time Chicora businessman and former borough councilman, died Sunday morning, September 30, 2012, shortly after his arrival in the emergency room at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Dick was born on November 15, 1941 in Kaylor, Armstrong County. He was the son of Wilbur Parks and Helen Viola McElhaney Rumbaugh.

He was a 1959 graduate of East Brady High School and attended New Castle Business School.

He was a notary public. He was a long-time member of Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church and the Altar Rosary Society. Dick served on Chicora Borough Council and was a life member of the Chicora Volunteer Fire Department. Dick enjoyed landscaping, NASCAR, and he most especially enjoyed the company of his children and grandchildren.

In his early years Dick worked for Parker Appliance in Chicora. In 1979, Dick and his brother, Bernard, purchased Fugini Ford in Chicora and the business was known as Rumbaugh Motors. At that same location they later opened the Rummy Mart convenience store. Dick sold the business in 2007 and retired after 28 years in business.

He is survived by his wife, Rose Fugini Rumbaugh, whom he married at Mater Dolorosa Church in Chicora on July 3, 1965. Also surviving are three children, Mitchell D. Rumbaugh and his wife, Kolleen, of Butler, Sue Surrena and her husband, Dave, of Chicora, and Curtis Rumbaugh and his friend, Robert Drew, of Washington, D.C.; four grandchildren, Raeanne and Ryan Rumbaugh of Butler and Megan and Dillan Surrena of Chicora; six brothers, Walter Rumbaugh and his wife, Emily, of Harrisville, Howard Lee Rumbaugh and his wife, Cheryl, of Cabot, Robert “Bob” Rumbaugh and his wife, Dolly of Chicora, Alvin Rumbaugh and his wife, Tanya, of Chicora, Bernard Rumbaugh and his wife, Diane, of Chicora, and Dennis Rumbaugh and his wife, Leann, of Butler; three sisters, Virginia Rumbaugh of East Brady, Helen Maxine Smith and her husband, Bill, of East Brady, and Lois Rumbaugh, of East Brady; two sisters-in-law, Rachel Rumbaugh of Butler and Catherine Rumbaugh of Saxonburg, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Harry, Jack, and Donald Rumbaugh, and a sister, Ruthie Rumbaugh.

Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Chicora, 339 Chicora Fenelton Road, Chicora, Tuesday from 12:00 Noon — 3:00 p.m. and from 5:00 — 9:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be concelebrated at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday from Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church, Chicora, with Dick’s brother-in-law, Rev. Francis Fugini, O.F.M. Cap, and Rev. Joseph Pudichery, church pastor, concelebrating. Interment will take place in Hemphill Cemetery, Chicora. A parish prayer service will be conducted at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
