Richard JohnsonRichard “Dick” Donald Johnson Sr., age 79, of Brookville, PA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 4, 2017, in the comforts of his home.

Dick was born on December 21, 1937, to the late Donald “Dunner” Ivan and Esther (Thiess) Johnson, in Strattanville, PA.

On September 2, 1982, Dick married Sherry L. (Forsythe) Johnson, in Hancock, MD; Sherry survives him.

Dick was a member of the Masonic Lodges in both Clarion and Brookville, PA, the Shriners, and he was also the first male member of the Order of Eastern Star in Clarion, PA.

Dick liked to race his Harley on circle dirt tracks in the mid 60’s and early 70’s.

He operated the Mobile gas station in Strattanville, PA, in the early 70’s and he owned and operated Johnson’s Towing and Junkyard in the mid 70’s and early 80’s.

He owned several rentals throughout the years in Strattanville, PA, Brookville, PA, and in Florida.

He worked in the forming department at Owens-Brockway in Clarion, PA, for 35 years, he then retired.

He and his wife Sherry owned and operated the Frosty Freeze in Brookville, PA, for 18 years.

He enjoyed going to Naples Florida in the winter with his wife, and his in-laws, Ann and Jim Sarvey.

Dick had many hobbies which included, wood working, vinyl graphics, and remote controlled airplanes. He also enjoyed the outdoors.

Dick also owned and operated a concession stand for several years which gave him the opportunity to travel, mostly to local festivals.

In his spare time he worked and earned his air conditioning and refrigeration license, as well as his CDL license.

Dick was known to travel far and wide in search of a good chili dog.

He enjoyed going to Salamanca Casino for the purpose of their grand buffet. He also looked forward to the all-you-can-eat shrimp at Red Lobster every year.

Dick shared a special relationship with his two grandsons, Mitchell and Matthew.

Mitchell worked alongside him in the concession stand and both boys worked in the frosty freeze. Mitchell has wonderful memories spending time with him hunting, wood working, learning to drive a stick shift, and sleeping over.

Matthew and granddad bonded over food, talking, and car cruises.

Dick had the gift of gab and his light hearted, hardworking nature will be missed.

In addition to his wife, Dick is survived by 2 sons; Richard Donald (Vicki) Johnson Jr., of Fisher, PA; David John (Kelli) Johnson of Strattanville, PA; 1 sister; Glenda Jayne Johnson of Strattanville, PA; 4 grandchildren; Lacy (Dennis) Sanky, Raleigh Johnson, Mitchell (Megan) Johnson, and Matthew Johnson.

In addition to his parents, Dick is preceded in death by 2 sons; Dale Robert Johnson, in July of 2006 and an infant son, Rickie Eugene Johnson on May 17, 1962.

Family and friends will be received on Friday, January 6, 2017, from 5 — 8pm, at the McKinney — d’Argy Funeral Home, ltd, 345 Main St., Brookville, PA, 15825.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2017, also at the funeral home, beginning at 11:00am, and officiated by the Rev. Jim Fillhart.

Interment will be taken care of privately at the family’s convenience.
