Richard CoursonRichard E. Courson, 88, of 482 Colerain Street Sligo, died at 10:40 A.M. Thursday February 9, 2017 at Clarview Nursing and Rehab Center.

Born December 28, 1928 in Sligo, he was the son of Samuel Courson and Hazel Linnie (Heeter) Courson.

Richard married Betty Ferringer on October 5, 1950 and she preceded him in death on January 12, 2006.

Richard retired from C&K Coal Company in 1994 after 15 years.

He was a lifetime Sligo Sportsman Club, Hill Top Beagle Club member and also a member of the VFW Post #7132 in Rimersburg.

Before his illness, he enjoyed spending his free time hunting.

Richard is survived by a sister; Janet Walters of Natrona Heights and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by two brothers; Ray and Dean Courson and a sister; Mildred Wilson.

Richard’s family will receive friends from 12 to 3 P.M. Sunday February 12, 2016 at the Varner Funeral Home in Sligo.

Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Monday February 13, 2016 at the funeral home with Rev. Stephanie Weaver, Pastor of the Sligo Presbyterian Church, officiating. Military Honors will be accorded by the ceremonial squads of the Shearer-Shick American Legion Post and the VFW #7132 of Rimersburg.

Interment will follow in the Sligo Cemetery.

Richard’s family suggests donations be made to the Sligo Sportmans Club, Sligo PA 16255.
