McNaughton PhotoRichard E. “Dick” McNaughton of Fisher Road, Strattanville, passed away peacefully at home on March 20, 2017. He was 93 years of age.

Born on January 13, 1924 in Miola, he was the son of the late Anson S. and F. Alberta (McCleary) McNaughton.

Dick lived in the Strattanville area all his life; he graduated from the last class of Strattanville High School in 1940 — he was the final surviving member.

In August 1950, he married Norma E. Corte, who preceded him in death in 1964. He was then married to Leona M. (Blachier) Lewis, who survives.

Dick was employed in surface mining at Grasso Coal Co., Glenn Coal, Stahlman Coal, and C&K Coal, retiring in 1985.

He enjoyed building bluebird houses and placing them in area that would help support and increase their population.

He also loved hiking the woods and gardening. His love of nature was shared through his photography of wildflowers and native birds.

He was of the Protestant faith.

Dick will be missed by his wife, Leona; sister, Joan Miller of North Carolina; son, Rich McNaughton, of Strattanville; daughter Deb Davis, of Milford, Indiana; step-son, Robert Lewis (Peggy), of Newark, Ohio; step-daughters Carol Slagle (Terry), of Leeper, and Susan Buzard (David) of Day City.

Grandchildren include Alexander, Anson, and Patrick (Brittany) Davis, Marisa (Allan) Covert, Corey (Whitney) Lewis, Kari Smith, and Katelyn Buzard.

He will be remembered by Steven and Adam Davis and their children, of Indiana; and Curt and Brady Slagle, of Tylersburg and Pittsburgh. His great-grandchildren include Peyton Smith, Brynna Covert and Braden Covert.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, and brothers Robert B. McNaughton and L. Paul McNaughton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Clarion-Forest Visiting Nurse Association Hospice, 271 Perkins Road, Clarion PA 16214 (www.cfvna.org), or Strattanville United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 96, Strattanville PA 16258.

Arrangements are under the care of the Goble Funeral Home and Crematory in Clarion.

According to his wishes there will be no public viewing or visiting hours.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the Strattanville United Methodist Church, 421 Washington Street, Strattanville PA 16258, with Pastor Nancy Zahn officiating.

Interment will be in the Strattanville Cemetery.
