Rick’s Racing Roundup: Darrell Lanigan Brings Season Winnings at Lernerville to $46k with Win

| September 2, 2014

World of Outlaws point leader Darrell Lanigan scored another victory at Lernerville speedway on Friday.

SARVER, Pa. (EYT) – Several area tracks were able to get some racing in over the weekend before rain hit the area.

Things got started Friday night at Lernerville Speedway where the World of Outlaws late model series invaded for the Working Man 50. It was a familiar face in victory lane when the checkers fell as Darrell Lanigan found himself holding the checker for the third time this season.

Lanigan’s win Friday, along with his Firecracker 100 win and a preliminary night win, brought his winning total to a cool $46,000 at just Lernerville alone this season. It has been a dream season for series point leader Lanigan who now has 15 World of Outlaw victories after winning the National Open at Selinsgrove Speedway on Sunday evening.

Russ King was the victor in the rescheduled Uncle Sam 30 from Firecracker 100 weekend. The win was King’s second career Uncle Sam 30 victory.

Lernerville Speedway will move to Saturday action starting this weekend as the Autumn-Motive Fest will take place featuring the stock cars, crate modifieds and a demo derby.

On Saturday night the sprint cars invaded the “Monster Half Mile” Pittsburgh Motor Speedway and saw Lernerville track champion Carl Bowser score the victory after a battle with Brandon Matus. In less than two weeks (Sept 13 and 14), the Pittsburgher 100 will take center stage with 50 laps, 5,000 to win features Saturday and Sunday for the super late models.

Carl Bowser and crew enjoy victory lane after his win in Pittsburgh.

Pittsburgh is also considering a big sprint car show for September 27. Watch for more information in the coming weeks.

Sportsman’s Speedway in Knox wrapped up their season this past Sunday. Mike Miller invaded for the limited sprint car win while Andy Priest made it two wins in a row scoring the limited modified win for car owner and former racer Cal Hull.

After sitting idle over the weekend, both Sharon Speedway and Mercer Raceway Park will swing back to action this Saturday. It will be Champions Night at Mercer and the final regular show of the season as the points come to a close for the season.

It looks like racing will have to wait until spring of 2015 for Tri-City Speedway near Franklin, recently renamed Tri-City Raceway Park. Promoter Chad Wagner indicated the rainy weather has set back all of the needed renovations but they are excited for next season. Look for a specials only format next season with a wide variety of different races and events.
