Rick’s Racing Roundup: World of Outlaws Set to Invade Lernerville Speedway July 15

| July 14, 2014

The King of the Outlaws, Steve Kinser, is coming to town July 15.

SARVER, Pa. (EYT) – This Tuesday, July 15, the biggest sprint car race in western Pennsylvania will take center stage as the World of Outlaws invade Lernerville Speedway for the Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup Twin 30’s.

Fans will get to watch the Outlaws compete in two, 30-lap features Tuesday, the only time all season the Outlaws use this double feature format. It will also be “Salute to the King” night as fans and racers alike honor the King of the Outlaws Steve Kinser as he competes for the World of Outlaws championship one last time in 2014.

Steve Kinser’s career has been a storied one and his achievements will probably never be matched by another driver. With 20 World of Outlaw championships and nearly 600 feature wins to his credit there’s no question why they call him the King of the Outlaws. Lernerville has been kind to Kinser where he owns 17 World of Outlaw victories including two Silver Cup wins, those coming in 1994 and 2008. Kinser also won the first ever Outlaw race at Lernerville in 1979.

Defending series champion, Daryn Pittman, will also be in action driving for Kasey Kahne along with current Outlaw point leader Donny Schatz. The most recent winners Kerry Madsen, Paul McMahan, Sammy Swindell and all of the other Outlaw regulars will also be on hand ready to do battle.

NASCAR champion, Tony Stewart, scored a Silver Cup victory two years ago and could be a surprise visitor this Tuesday. Gates open at 5 p.m. with hot laps slated for 6:30 for this show you won’t want to miss.

This past Friday at Lernerville it was business as usual as a regular show of Fab Four racing saw Rod George make his first start of the season at the Sarver oval pay off resulting in his 44th career victory at the track. Brian Swartzlander scored his 84th career victory in the big block modified feature tying him with Blackie Watt for 6th on the all time win list.

Other winners were Michael Norris who scored his first of the season with the late models and Jim Fosnaught who collected his third sportsman win of the year.

The BRP Modified Tour highlighted the action at Mercer Raceway Park on Saturday and Mercer small-block modified regular, Lonnie Riggs, was the upset winner besting the big block invaders. Big block racers Brad Rapp, Jeremiah Shingledecker, Rex King, and Dave Murdick rounded out the top five.

The second day of BRP action slated for Sunday fell victim to rain and has been rescheduled for Sunday July 27.

This Saturday, Mercer will host the annual Racing for a Cure Night benefiting the American Cancer Society. All cancer survivors will be admitted free of charge.

Jack Sodeman Jr. was the winner of the sprint car special at Pittsburgh Motor Speedway on Saturday evening. Sodeman’s win was worth $2,000 to the Lordstown, Ohio driver. Ryan Montgomery bested a field of 37 crate late models to win the touring event while Keith Barbara was the winner of the super late model feature. This Saturday will be a regular show and dollar hot dog night at the monster half mile.

On the national scene everyone was talking about the Kings Royal at Tony Stewart’s Eldora Speedway. It’s one of the most prestigious races of the season and this year. Australian, Kerry Madsen, put on a show to win his first ever Kings Royal and $50,000. Paul McMahan was the other big winner as he scored his first Brad Doty Classic win Wednesday night at Limaland Motorsports Park in Ohio.
