Robert B. Moyer Sr.

Robert B. Moyer Sr., 89, a long-time resident of Oil City, passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 3, 2019, after suffering a stroke on Feb. 26.

Born Oct. 7, 1929, in Oil City, he was a son of the late Thomas and Velma Baker Moyer.

Mr. Moyer was raised in Oil City and graduated from Oil City High School in 1947.

He served two years in the Pennsylvania National Guard before going on to serve two years active duty in the Army, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant.

He graduated from the PBA School of Banking at Bucknell University and was a graduate of the Dale Carnegie Course.

Bob retired from Mellon Bank as Vice President of Operations in 1987 after 40 years of service with Oil City National Bank, Northwest Pennsylvania Bank and Mellon Bank.

He taught evening adult classes for the American Institute of Banking and was a member of the Bank Advisory Committee for the Regional Check Processing Center at the Pittsburgh Federal Reserve Bank.

He served on various operations committees with the Pennsylvania Bankers Association in Harrisburg.

Bob was a member of the local American Legion Post No. 32 and has been a member of Calvary United Methodist Church since 1956.

He enjoyed serving his church as Treasurer, Finance Committee Chairperson and Auditor, and he served as an usher on many occasions.

Mr. Moyer was a member of the Kiwanis Club in Oil City since 1971, and he held the position of club secretary/treasurer until the club disbanded in 2012.

He and his wife chaired the Oil Heritage parade in 1985.

An avid golfer, he enjoyed doing the statistical newsletter each week for the golf league.

In March 2010, Bob was inducted into the Pennsylvania Voters Hall of Fame for voting consecutively 55 years.

On June 19, 1954, Mr. Moyer was married to the former Helen Goodemote, who survives.

They were married in the First Evangelical United Brethren Church, now known as Calvary United Methodist Church, by the Rev. Clarence Miller.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, Debra Crowley and husband Steve of Lewisburg, and Robert Moyer Jr. of Erie; four grandchildren, Royd Crowley of Oil City, Kara Spangler and husband John of Williamsport, and Paige Moyer and Ainsley Moyer of Erie; and two great-grandchildren, Blake and Leah Spangler of Williamsport.

He is also survived by his brother, Richard Moyer and wife Margie of Oil City; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends and family may call at the Morrison Funeral Home in Oil City on Sunday from 1 to 2 p.m.

Directly following the visitation, services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday with the Rev. Ali Berkey officiating, followed by full military honors accorded by the VETS Honor Guard.

Interment will be in Grove Hill Cemetery.
