Robert E. “Hoot” Anderson

Robert E. “Hoot” Anderson, 90, a well-known resident of 226 Seysler Road, Franklin, died peacefully at 3 PM Wednesday, February 27, 2019 in UPMC-Northwest in Seneca, following a period of declining health, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born May 26, 1928 in Franklin, a beloved son of the late: Roy W. and Edna Hamilton Anderson.

He was a 1947 graduate of Franklin High School.

Following his high school graduation, he proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Army where he attained rank of Corporal, during the Korean War era.

Following his honorable discharge from duty, Mr. Anderson owned and operated Rocky Grove Upholstery for more than 45 years.

His upholstery skills were known throughout the area, and he produced many quality pieces of work.

Mr. Anderson was an active and faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church in Franklin.

For many years, Mr. Anderson was known to many as their Little League manager and umpire.

He was a diehard Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates fan.

As an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, golfing, telling stories around the campfire and training bird dogs.

He looked forward to his Thursday breakfast group and playing the harmonica.

Being an accomplished harmonica player, a highlight to his military service was being able to visit the Honer Harmonica Factory while stationed in Germany.

Mr. Anderson was also particularly fond of woodworking and kayaking.

He was especially proud of the kayak he had personally made for himself.

He was a longtime member of Franklin Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. #110; where he enjoyed being a member of the club’s golf league.

He was a former member of the Franklin Kiwanis Club.

Most important to him always was his family.

He enjoyed the fun times he shared with them, particularly spending quality time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was married June 15, 1951 to the former June E. Brown, who survives.

In addition to his beloved wife of 67 years, he is survived by his children: Robert E. Anderson, Jr. and wife, Lisa of Monessen; Mark “Hunter” Anderson and wife, Tammie of Franklin; Curt C. Anderson also of Franklin and Tim L. Anderson and wife, Jennifer of Lake Wales, FL.

Also surviving are his grandchildren: Brett H. Anderson and wife, Stephanie; Brooke J. Kossick and husband, Matt; Ben M. Anderson and wife, Rachael all of Franklin; Nicholas S. Anderson of Brooklyn, NY; Zachary J. Anderson; Emily S. Anderson both of Lake Wales, FL; Drake C. Anderson and wife, Shelby of Independence, OR; Taylor J. Anderson of Franklin; Haley L. Lantz of Beaver, PA; Eric R. Anderson of Philadelphia and Evan R. Anderson of Monessen; in addition to nine great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Lou Kockler and her husband, James.

Friends may call Friday 4-7 PM in the Timothy E. Hartle Funeral Home, 1328 Elk Street, Franklin.

Family and friends may also call Saturday 11 AM until 1 PM in The First Presbyterian Church, 1250 Elk Street in Franklin.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 1 PM in the church with Reverend Barry Jenkins, pastor; and Reverend Randy Ritchey of Fredonia, officiating.

Private burial will be in Old Sandy Cemetery in Polk.

Memorial contributions, if desired, may be directed in his name to either: The First Presbyterian Church in Franklin or to The Veteran’s Administration of Erie.
