Robert J. Buchanan

Robert J. Buchanan, 66, a resident of Rocky Grove Avenue, Franklin, died peacefully on Friday, June 1, 2018; shortly after his arrival at the emergency department of UPMC-Northwest in Seneca.

Mr. Buchanan was stricken earlier at his home with an apparent massive heart attack, with his wife by his side.

He was born November 19, 1951, in Newburgh, NY, a beloved son of the late Robert and Lucille West Buchanan. He was raised by his father and step-mother, Anna Buchanan.

Robert was a graduate of Oil City High School and had attended college, earning an associate degree in the electronics field.

He had worked as an electrician at the former Joy Manufacturing Company in Franklin, where he was a longtime proud member of the IAM of the AFL-CIO union. He had also worked as a truck driver with both PennDOT and AK Steel in Titusville.

Robert had a lifelong love of motorcycles, photography, and trains. In his earlier years, he was quite adventurous, enjoying hiking, rock climbing, and parachuting.

He attended the Victory Heights United Brethren Church.

He married the former Linda L. Simpson on October 7, 2007, who survives.

In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by two sons: Russell Buchanan and his wife Trish of Colorado Springs, CO, and Matthew Buchanan and his significant other, Jennifer of Titusville; and their mother, Theadora “Teddy”; also surviving are two step-sons: James Moyer, III and his wife Laura of Franklin and Mark Moyer and his wife Angela of Rocky Grove; in addition to his beloved grandchildren: Alex Buchanan, Matthew Dulaney, Thomas Buchanan, Zared Baker, Haven Wilson, Jocelyn Wilson and Anson Moyer.

He is also survived by his sister, Jacqueline Dehn of Oil City; an uncle, Russell West and his wife Eileen of New York state and by many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents and step-mother.

In keeping with his wishes, there will be no public visitation.

A private memorial service in celebration of his life to be held at the Victory Heights United Brethren Church is planned by his family.
