Robert ReedRobert James Reed, 89, of 22 Kramer Ave, Oil City, died at 12:58 pm, Friday, January 6, 2017, at the VNA Inpatient Hospice in Butler, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s.

Born October 9, 1927 in Clarion County, he was a son of the late Alva G. and Martha McCracken Reed.

Mr. Reed served in the US Navy during WW II, being honorably discharged June 9, 1946.

Moving to Oil City in 1961, he worked at various jobs including Oil Well Supply, Schwan Food as a manager and retired from Heath Oil Company.

Mr. Reed was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and a 50-year member of Petrolia Lodge 363 F&AM.

On June 4, 1949, he married the former Lois Jean Campbell, who survives. They had celebrated 67 years of marriage.

In addition to his wife, surviving are six children, James (Jeanne) Reed of Valparaiso IN, Cheryl (Daniel) Yaple of Northumberland. Kathy (David) Lauer of Rouseville, Linda (Mark) Sarver of Lehighton, Donna Rosenberger of Shelocta, and Bob Reed of Oil City; 10 grandchildren, Justin Reed, Jacob Reed, Gary Yaple, Jean Marie Yaple Morris, Heather Lauer Poling, Greta Sarver, Abbey Sarver, Don Paul Rosenberger, Susannah Rosenberger Zhang and Danielle Rosenberger; and 4 great grandsons, Joel and Jayson Morris, Kyle Poling and Alan Zhang.

Also surviving are 2 brothers, Rodney (Virginia) Reed of Greenville and Gerald (Kathie) Reed of Columbia MD; a sister, Alma Ehrhart of Irwin; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Morrison Funeral Home on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm.

Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 11 am Tuesday with the Rev. Byron K. Myers, officiating.

Interment will be in Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens.

Full Military Honors will be accorded by the VETS Honor Guard.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to Grace United Methodist Church.
