Robbie HallRobert R. (Robbie) Hall of Oil City died at Oil City Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, formerly Golden Living Center in Oil City on January 25, 2017 following a short illness.

Born September 29, 1925, he was the son of Daniel A. Hall and Catherine Trapp Hall.

Mr. Hall lived in Oil City his entire life and attended both St. Joseph and Oil City High Schools. The youngest of 4 sons, all outstanding athletes, Mr. Hall was an All-State Honorable Mention in football. He also played semi-pro football for the Warren Red Jackets. He was highly competitive, and one of his favorite quotes was “Show me a good loser and I’ll show you a loser.”

Mr. Hall enlisted in the Navy in December of 1943, following in the footsteps of his 3 older brothers who were also serving in World War II. He was a second class Gunner’s Mate and saw action in the battle of Okinawa in the Pacific arena. He was honorably discharged in May of 1946.

Mr. Hall was Secretary-Treasurer of Rayland Corporation, where he had worked for 20 years. He then was employed as an insurance agent for the Prudential Insurance Company, retiring in 1985.

Mr. Hall was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Church in Oil City. He was also a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus, where he enjoyed Duckpin bowling. It was often remarked that he bowled his best games after being given a chocolate candy bar and a beer, usually resulting in his team winning championship games. Mr. Hall belonged to the VFW, Pulaski, and PNA clubs. In later years, he enjoyed swimming at the YMCA. He played golf the majority of his life, and belonged to various golf leagues and clubs in Venango County. He especially enjoyed golfing with his wife Shirley, and they often traveled to golf courses in Florida and other states.

Mr. Hall stopped bowling and golfing after the summer of 2015, claiming there was “no more competition out there.” He was an avid supporter of Oil City High School sports, rarely missing football games and both boys and girls basketball games. For his years of dedication to Oil City sports, he was awarded a “Gold Card” entrance pass.

He was a passionate supporter of Notre Dame Sports, and followed professional sports as well. He read the sports section of the newspaper daily, paying particular attention to the sports schedule for the day, always underlining the events he planned to either attend or watch on TV each day.

Mr. Hall was married to Shirley Rae Anderson, who preceded him in death on May 16, 1999. She was the love of his life, and he often remarked that he could never have found a better life partner and that there was never a day that went by without him thinking of her.

Surviving are three sons, Timothy T. Hall of Oil City, Patrick M. Hall of Franklin, and Daniel R. (Mary Lou) Hall of Oil City; also two daughters, Sheila R. Wilkinson (Philip), and Sharon E. Udick (Stephen), both of Oil City. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren, D. Benjamin Hall, Kimberly Hall Caggiano, Kelly Wilkinson, Kerri Wilkinson, Stephanie Udick Gezici, and Tricia Hall; also 3 step-grandchildren, Brian Udick, Doug Udick, and Amanda Udick Knight.
