Rock In River Festival, PA Stone Skipping Competition Set for August 19

FRANKLIN, Pa. (EYT) — The Rock In River Festival and PA Stone Skipping Championship, presented by the Franklin Fine Arts Council, will be held Saturday, August 19, at the Riverfront Park in Franklin.

This festival showcases Venango County’s waterways and trails.

Festivities and registration for PA Stone Skipping Competition begin at 11:00 a.m.

Visitors will enjoy chicken barbecue dinners, pulled pork, Edible Arrangements and Susie Q’s homemade ice cream, pizza, and river ice.

Kids can take part in crafts, enjoy the petting zoo, or compete in the annual Rock Painting Competition.

O.A.R.S. will offer kayak demos.

The PA Stone Skipping Competition begins at 1:00 p.m. for youth and amateurs.  Professionals will compete at 3:00 p.m.

Those who have not previously qualified as a pro must first participate in the Amateur Category, and if they score 25 skips or more, they may then register in the Professional Division.

Franklin star, Russ “Rock Bottom” Byars, former Guinness World Record holder, the 2016 PA Stone Skipping Champion, David “Spiderman” Ohmer and the present Guinness Record Holder Kurt “Mountain Man” Steiner will be among the competitors.

The following nearby parking lots are available for spectators: Salvation Army, Elk & 8th, the VFW on 9th Street (Liberty Street side & behind building on Buffalo St) and Saint Patrick’s Parking Lot at corner of Buffalo & 10th Street and the Franklin School District Parking Lot at Elk & 7th Street.
